Anyang Halla Wins Asia Hockey Championship
For Asia Hockey Fans; what a game. For Anyang Halla, what a night.
Woo Jae Kim scored the winning goal 4 minutes into overtime as Anyang Halla defeated the defending champion Nippon Paper Cranes 5-4, to capture their first Asia League Ice Hockey Championship. Halla becomes the first non japanese team to win the title since the league expanded in 2003, and just the second team to win the Leader Flag (regular season champion) as well as the league title.
Hockey fans couldn't have asked for a more dramatic game 5. The Paper Cranes lead the game 3 - 1 midway through the second period, until a late second period goal and early third period goal by Halla tied the game at 3.
Then, with less than 2:54 remaining in regulation, the Cranes grabbed a 4-3 lead with a goal by Yoshinori Iimura. With the clock ticking on their season and championship dreams, Ki Sung Kim scored with 17 seconds left to tie the game and send it to Overtime, the 4th Overtime game this series.
Edmonton Oilers Draft Pick Brock "The Canadian Big Beauty" Radunske had 3 Assists in the game, and was named Playoffs MVP. Edmonton Alberta native Chris Yule also had 3 points in the game.
Congratulations to both the Nippon Paper Cranes and Anyang Halla for an excellent Series, and to Anyang Halla on their Championship!
