Anyang Halla Wins Asia Hockey Championship

For Asia Hockey Fans; what a game. For Anyang Halla, what a night.

Woo Jae Kim scored the winning goal 4 minutes into overtime as Anyang Halla defeated the defending champion Nippon Paper Cranes 5-4, to capture their first Asia League Ice Hockey Championship. Halla becomes the first non japanese team to win the title since the league expanded in 2003, and just the second team to win the Leader Flag (regular season champion) as well as the league title.

Hockey fans couldn't have asked for a more dramatic game 5. The Paper Cranes lead the game 3 - 1 midway through the second period, until a late second period goal and early third period goal by Halla tied the game at 3.

Then, with less than 2:54 remaining in regulation, the Cranes grabbed a 4-3 lead with a goal by Yoshinori Iimura. With the clock ticking on their season and championship dreams, Ki Sung Kim scored with 17 seconds left to tie the game and send it to Overtime, the 4th Overtime game this series.

Edmonton Oilers Draft Pick Brock "The Canadian Big Beauty" Radunske had 3 Assists in the game, and was named Playoffs MVP. Edmonton Alberta native Chris Yule also had 3 points in the game.

Congratulations to both the Nippon Paper Cranes and Anyang Halla for an excellent Series, and to Anyang Halla on their Championship!

Cranes Tie with 2 Seconds Left, Win Game 4 in OT.

Anyang Halla was 2 seconds away from capturing their first Asia League Ice Hockey Championship, but the defending Champion Nippon Paper Cranes would not co-operate.

Masahi Nishiwaki tied the game for Nippon with 2 seconds remaining in regulation time, and Darcy Mitani scored the winner in Overtime, giving the Cranes a 3-2 win and tying the best of 5 series at 2 games a piece. The Cranes outshot Halla 31-21.

The Cranes win sets up a 5th and deciding, game 5, to be played Sunday in Kushiro Japan. Halla will be looking to capture their first ALIH Championship, while the Paper Cranes will be looking to defend their title.

Cranes Strike Back: Send Series back to Kushiro with 5-2 win

After losing the first two games of the ALIH Finals in Overtime, the Nippon Paper Cranes decided to make sure Game 3 would end in regular time

The defending champions not only faced elimination in front of sold out crowd in Anyang, but also 40 shots from Anyang Halla, and turned aside all but two, as the Cranes defeated Halla 5-2.

The Cranes received from much needed offence from Chris Yule, who had a goal and an assist and Darcy TakeshI Mitani, with a goal and 2 assists. Anyang Halla's Brock Radunske, continued his scoring streak, with another goal and assist.

Anyang Halla still leads the best of 5 Series 2 - 1, and can still eliminate the Cranes in Game 4, however they will have to do it in front of the Paper Cranes home crowd, considered one of the largest and loudest in the Asia League. Games 4 will take place Saturday and Game 5, if necessary, Sunday in Kushiro City Japan.

Radunske Strikes Again; Halla wins Game 2 in OT

Anyang Halla forward Brock Radunske's korean nickname is the 'Canadian Big Beauty'. They may soon also be calling him ' Captain Clutch'.

Radunske, an Edmonton Oiler Draft Pick, scored his second overtime game winner in as many nights as Anyang Halla defeated the Nippon Paper Cranes, giving the Anyang a 2-0 Series lead in the best of 5 Asia League Ice Hockey Final. Radunske also had an assist.

Sunday afternoon, Radunske scored 57 seconds into Overtime to lead Anyang to a 3-2 win. Last night, it took him just a shade longer, scoring 1 minute 58 minutes into Overtime. The Paper Cranes outshot Halla 36-30. Hideyuke Osawa scored the lone goal for the Paper Cranes.

Anyang Halla can sweep the Paper Cranes with a victory Wednesday night and capture their first title when the teams meet for game 3 of the ALIH Finals. Games 4 and 5, if necessary will be played in Kushiro Japan on Saturday and Sunday.

Let the Games Begin: Asia Ice Hockey League Playoffs 2010

The race for the Asia League Ice Hockey Championship is about to begin, and oh what a race it will be.

The Nippon Paper Cranes will begin to defend their title against Japanese arch rival, and 2008 Asia League Champions, the Oji Eagles. The Cranes, which won and emotional and memorable series against the now defunct Seibu Prince Rabbits last season, will certainly have their hands full, going up against the Asia League's top goalie, HARUNA Masahito.

The other semi final is just as fierce, featuring Korean Super Rivals, Anyang Halla and High 1. Anyang Halla has had much regular season success, and boasts the Asia Leagues MVP in Patrick Martinec, as well as top scorer Alex Smith. However with all their firepower, they have yet to translate that into any Championships, and you can be sure that High 1 will do everything in their power to give Halla a dissapointing end to their Season.

Both Semi Finals are best of 5's and begin March 11th. The Championship Series begins March 21.

Buckle up kids. We're in for a wild ride.

Deadliest Prime Minister: ROUND 2 DETAILS

So last week i was wondering publicly about how we were going to solve our 'Deadliest Prime Minister Round 2' problem. That problem being of course, that we have 11 Prime Ministers left, which is an odd number, but we needed to have it a nice even number, preferably divisible by 4 , in order to produce an eventual winner. Certainly i didnt have an idea on how we could fix this. I mean what am I? Some sort of tournament rocket scientist? Scoff!

Well Fear not friends. Chad, has a plan.

Chad is proposing we take the 11 round one victors, and divide them into 4 matches: 1 will be an ordinary 2 man match ( 1 vs 1) and the other three ( count em) THREE will be 3 MAN DEATHMATCHES! That means out of 11 Prime Minsters, only 4 will be going on to the Deadliest Prime Minster Semi Finals!

We'll do the draw live on the air this tuesday morning from 7am to 9am! To recap, here is who remains after round 1:

Stephan Harper
Brian Mulroney
Sir Charles Tupper
Louis St. Laurant
Jean Chretien
Sir Wilfred Laurier
Lester B. Person
Alexander Mackenzie
Sir John A Macdonald
John Deifenbaker
Pierre Elliot Trudeau

So; who you got?

March 2, 2010 - Beware Country Elvis

On Todays Show, Colin suspects Chad is a super hero, having joined the 'Fantastic 27' due to his shirt. Chad responds by somehow finding a copy of 'Country Elvis' which then of course reignites the 'Elvis vs Beatles Debate'. The Asian Ice Hockey Award winners are announced ( including 'MVP' and 'Young Guy of the Year') and Chad reveals his SECRET PLANS for Round 2 of "Deadliest Prime Minister" ( details to follow!)
